Theatre Projects Manitoba announces 2019/ 2020 Season!

2019/2010 marks the 29th season for intrepid theatre architects Theatre Projects Manitoba.

Our season launch will take place on October 22nd at Times Changed High & Lonesome Club. Join us for snacks, a cash bar and a short roaring program– meet the artists and take a sneak peek at what we have in store this season. Winnipeg’s much-loved Times Change(d) is the host venue – in their newly renovated space at 234 Main street. Free and open to the public.

January – In the depths of winter, a hot Canadian Classic and winner of the Governor General Award for Drama, Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) by Ann-Marie Macdonald. (novelist and playwright of Fall on Your Knees, The Way the Crow Flies, The Attic the Pearls & the Three Fine Girls, Adult Onset and more!) This is the other-worldly, comedic story of an overlooked academic striving to prove her theory about two of Shakespeare’s best-known plays; Romeo & Juliet and Othello.

Winnipeg’s own RobYn Slade (member of comedy darlings Outside Joke, The Cottage-RMTC, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea) will star as Constance Ledbelly whose often hilarious subconscious journey of self-discovery brings Shakespeare’s archetypal heroines into a new light as they try to untangle issues of identity, sexuality and self-worth.

A crazily intelligent play that has gender bending at its very core, MacDonald’s wicked comedy will be helmed by director Michelle Boulet (Timon of Athens – SIR) and be part of RMTC’s Shakespeare Fest. Rounding out the all-star cast is Tom Keenan, Joanne Roberts, Ryan Miller, and Laura Olafson.

April – In spring we lift the curtain on Five Moments, A World Premiere by Rick Chafe.

Commissioned by Theatre Projects Manitoba, Five Moments is a thrilling hybrid of domestic fabulism, time travel, and story theatre. Directed by Artistic Director Ardith Boxall with collaborator Andraea Sartison (Red Earth, A Short History of Crazy Bone) the show features Sarah Constible (Dragonfly, Beautiful Man) and Arne MacPherson (I Dream of Diesel).

Five Moments experiments with new forms in this playful, searing “what if” scenario of love and loss. Phoebe and Jack are married. They have had a child. They have been very happy. They have had their sorrows. Phoebe and Jack have a time machine. And they are re-evaluating spending the rest of their lives together.

Five Moments is a serious game for lovers in a dangerous time.

This is a year for laughter and love; a time for magical journeys and difficult roads. The characters you will encounter are facing re-invention and transformation; they are spirit guides for life in this very moment. Through them we might face the joys and struggles of embracing life in the face of great uncertainty.  Both plays this season embrace story telling that aides us in a search for wonder, awe and mystery.”    – Ardith Boxall, Artistic Director
