This Is the Story of the Child Ruled by Fear by David Gagnon Walker (A Strange Victory Performance) 

After their successful runs across the country including High Performance Rodeo, and SummerWorks, we are so excited to welcome Strange Victory Performance to Winnipeg for the Manitoba premiere of this experimental theatre collaboration with audiences.  

David has written a play for himself and a gathering of friends and strangers to read together out loud. It’s the story of the rise and fall of an imaginary civilization in an imaginary land. A poetic fable about how to live with the slowly unfolding emergencies of our world, it’s also an invitation to join in on the artistic process, and a testament to the power of a roomful of people discovering a new story together. 

Created by a team of award-winning artists from across Canada, This Is the Story of the Child Ruled by Fear invites you back to the theatre after this long, strange time, asking you to help tell a story about worry and wonder, loneliness and community, beauty and fear.  

Written and performed by David Gagnon Walker, directed by Christian Barry and Judy Wensel, multimedia design by Tori Morrison, physical design by Morgan Melenka. 

Participate according to your own comfort – read for a character, join the chorus, or sit back and watch – and join this humorous, cathartic exploration of our innermost private fears. 

This performance of This Is the Story of the Child Ruled By Fear will be presented with French subtitles on a tablet for patrons who would like to use them.

Fable poétique sur les façons de vivre avec les urgences de notre monde, la singularité de ce spectacle est de nous inviter à y participer soi-même.

Participez à votre guise : lisez pour un personnage, rejoignez le chœur ou asseyez-vous et regardez. À votre façon, prenez part à cette exploration humoristique de nos peurs les plus intimes.

Cette pièce met en vedette une équipe d’artistes primés au Canada : Écrit et interprété par David Gagnon Walker, mise en scène par Christian Barry et Judy Wensel, conception multimédia par Tori Morrison, conception des décors par Morgan Melenka, assistance technique et design par Lauren Acheson et Patricia Vinluan. Graphisme original et conception de l’affiche par Danielle Friesen.
