The Board of Directors of Theatre Projects Manitoba is thrilled to announce that …
Jason Hooper
Has been appointed as the company’s new Managing Director!
“Jason is a proven leader in the arts sector, with demonstrated dedication to community engagement, reconciliation, and skills in financial stewardship through a collaborative people-first leadership style. With a long-standing passion for theatre, we’re excited that he will be bringing his experience and creative approach to Theatre Projects Manitoba, working alongside Artistic Director Suzie Martin, towards TPM’s future successes.”
Anne Bolton, Board Chair
Jason comes to Theatre Projects Manitoba with over 15 years of experience in leadership at the West End Cultural Centre where he began as Front of House Manager, before stepping into the role of Artistic Director and then the Executive Director. During his tenure at the WECC, he successfully recovered a $100,000 deficit, raised $75,000 for capital improvements, and built a $150,000 cash reserve for recovery. He currently sits on the board for Manitobans for the Arts and supports their efforts to advocate for the arts across the province as well as to lobby members of the Manitoba Legislature for greater public support for the arts sector as a whole.
“I’m so pleased that Jason will be my new partner in leading and stewarding TPM. He brings such valuable skills to the table, and I believe we will complement each other not only in our knowledge and skill sets, but also our approaches to leadership. I’m looking forward to what this new partnership can do for TPM and the communities we serve!”
Suzie Martin, Artistic Director
When not running a successful arts organisation, Jason enjoys woodturning and carving and uses these skills to create anatomical models for the Sexuality Education Resource Centre. He is an active member of the Arts & Letters curling league made up of members of the creative community and which includes poets, musicians, actors, architects and many more. He and his wife are avid fans of Sumo Wrestling and make time to watch the tournament highlights from Japan.
“Theatre Projects Manitoba produces the kind of challenging, innovative, and provocative theatre that I find is the most rewarding, and best reflects our city and community. I am beyond honoured to accept the role of Managing Director and I’m excited to begin serving Winnipeg’s amazing community of theatre creators and audiences.”
